Stories of Maribor

Why choose a guided tour of Maribor's stories?

The stories of Maribor are the perfect introduction to exploring a city where history and legends come to life in unique tales. While visiting landmarks—from the oldest vine in the world, the Town Hall, and the Plague Column to Lent and the Cathedral—we also discover lesser-known aspects: the mystical legend of Black Mary in the castle chapel and the reason why an "American detective" stands in the middle of Freedom Square. The tour is not just a list of points of interest, but an opportunity to experience Maribor through the people who have left their mark on it.

What will you experience?

A walk through the city center takes you from the first written mentions in the 12th century to the heyday of the 19th century, when industrialization brought economic and cultural prosperity to the city. We don't just focus on architecture – we learn how the people of Maribor lived in different periods, how the city experienced the Habsburg era and the occupation during World War II, and we take a look at darker chapters, such as the manufacture of aircraft parts in secret underground tunnels. At key points (city squares, Kojak, Lent, Maribor Castle, the Cathedral, Gosposka Street, the Old Bridge), we also reveal how the authenticity of the oldest vine was proven and how the "diarrhoea affair" unusually contributed to the birth of NK Maribor.
